Ludivine Griveau - The wines of Jean Gagnerot
If you’ve ever been seduced by one of our Burgundies (and chances are you have), you probably have the winemaking talent of Ludivine Griveau to thank. For the past four years Ludivine has made wines for premiere negociant Jean Gagnerot and taken their already beautiful wines to new heights. Her passion for her work and youthful vigor is evident in every bottle she crafts.
So how does a woman barely 30 years of age become one of the most respected vignerons in Burgundy? Well to begin with, her dedication to her craft is second to none. She works with 117 different vineyard sites throughout Burgundy that she regularly visits and knows every inch of. She’s been known to pack a sleeping bag to work and stay the night amongst the vines. For harvest, every grape is handpicked and double sorted before final selection. Not a single detail is missed in the pursuit of crafting great wine.
This hard work in the vineyards allows her to be a minimalist in the cellar, making pure, terroir-driven wines in a non-interventional way. She is passionate about the style of wine she aims to make. “I seek an exotic expression of fruit to the Chardonnay I craft. The wine should have good depth and richness while maintaining balance and a vibrant acidity. My favorite reds have always showed an array of ripe red fruits combined with a soft, sultry texture.” Ludivine isn’t the kind of winemaker who seeks the spotlight; she lets her wines speak for her.
